Social Media Catching Fire Worldwide

Last April, Facebook passed MySpace to become the largest of its ilk in the US. But the race is still on and its happening globally according to to a piece on this morning's MediaPost.

The article states "Facebook has ... benefited from launching an effort at the start of the year to allow users to translate the site into different languages. Last month, the company said it would also begin to allow developers to translate their applications into multiple languages."

I can't see any of the players in Social Media making much money on the phenomenon. Where will it grow from here?

Hey Pabst,

Saw this the other day...looks like there's a social network for EVERYONE.

Social Networking For Dogs

It’s a dog’s world and especially so at DoggySpace.com, the social networking site for dog lovers where you can post videos and connect with other dog lovers. In their own words: Doggyspace is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who love dogs. People use Doggyspace to keep up with friends, upload funny dog videos, and to give their dogs their own cyber place. It’s a combination YouTube meets MySpace but specifically for the canine persuasion.

Social media is fast replacing the actual connection we gain from person to person and face to face interaction. While I realize the value of social media in that it allows people to maintain some sort of connection from across the globe, I still am left to wonder how genuine of a connection it establishes. How close can you possibly be to someone without at least hearing their voice once and a while? So much emotion and feeling is left out in the written word.

Well said. I think that social marketing is more an online "address book" - one that brings itself up to date - that anything else,
